I am writing this for 2 reasons, one it to vent and the other to share with you what I learned.
While changing my son's diaper, he got ahold of a bottle of baby oil that was sitting on his change table. He is getting so fast, I turned my head for a second to grad a diaper from the side of the change table and when I looked back at him he had the bottle of baby oil in his mouth. The cover was not on good and it was spilling out. I quickly grabbed it from him and stuck his bath towel in his mouth to absorb what was in there.
I called my pediatrician right away and they told me to call poison control. Now I am really freaking out...... When I spoke to poison control they lady on the phone said baby oil is the worst thing to have around babies. What? She said they can get very ill, even die from it if swallowed. I told her I didn't think he got much and she said it didn't matter how muc, if it got into his lungs it is very harmful. She said she would not keep that stuff in a house with babies. I was advised to watch him closely for the next 6 hours and any signs of breathing trouble to take him to the ER. Thankfully, nothing happened, but really?
I know the bottle says harmful if swallowed blah, blah, blah - but most everything says that. If the product is as bad as she said why do they even sell it especially in those gift packs for newborns.
Anyway, I did get rid of the baby oil and will probably never have a bottle in my house again and I wanted to share with you what I learned so you can prevent this from happening to you. It was horrible.

Who would have thought? I'll put mine up way high when I get home from work this afternoon. Blake is going through the oral stage and if he were to come in contact with it I know he'd put it in his mouth.
